Volunteering Strategy

The Sheffield First Partnership (SFP) Volunteering Strategy was launched on 14 January.

SFP adopted the local priority indicator for volunteering, setting a target of increasing the proportion of local people who volunteer from 21.1% to 24.5%.

Voluntary Action Sheffield, on behalf of the Partnership and in collaboration with a steering group representing the voluntary and public sector, produced a Volunteering Strategy to accomplish that goal.  The strategy also contains measures to ensure high quality volunteer management across all sectors, and improved collaboration between all organisations with an interest in volunteering.  Given the importance of volunteering to service delivery, community regeneration, social capital and skills development, this strategy is a key development for the city as a whole.

Kirstie Haines, Interim Director of Sheffield First Partnership says: “Not only does volunteering make a real difference for people who need extra support, but it also can be really enjoyable and help individuals gain new skills.

“Sheffield has an excellent history of volunteering, bringing people together from a wide variety of backgrounds.  We hope that this strategy will build on that strength and ensure that local people are encouraged and supported to give their time and expertise in a voluntary capacity.”
