Picture This 2020:
Working with Local People to shape Sheffield's Sustainable Communities' Strategy 2010-2020
Progress to date
Sheffield First Partnership (SFP) is in the process of developing the next Sustainable Communities' Strategy (or City Strategy). This strategy, which is a statutory requirement, aims to set the long-term vision and ambitions for Sheffield in order to improve the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of the city and its people.
Between October 2009 and January 2010, SFP gave local people the opportunity to have their say in shaping the Strategy.
This engagement included: an interactive event open to the public; questionnaires which were distributed through local communities and online; workshops with groups of interest including the Faith Forum and Youth Council; work with eight specific focus groups including: Muslim women; small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and the disabled community.
The outcome of this engagement work was then collated to form a clear picture of what is important to local people, and has since been presented in draft form to various partners and other stakeholders for further input. This phase of the work, known as 'testing', included a 12-week period of public consultation – where local people had the opportunity to feedback on these draft priorities.
What next?
Further work is now underway to finalise the draft and the objectives under each ambition that will ensure we achieve the ambition.
