Inspire-Aspire – innovation for better lives
Outcomes in Children’s Services are improving young lives all the time, yet many children and young people in South Yorkshire are still not fulfilling their potential. They are achieving poorly across a wide variety of measures, particularly when compared with regional and national averages.
While there are now more, and better funded, public services than ever, the traditional models of improving young lives have reached their full potential. The political and economic climate means that resources are being squeezed and will continue to be squeezed for the foreseeable future.
Partners in South Yorkshire therefore decided to adopt a new approach; one that has been proven to work in other public sector areas such as health and sustainability.
Inspire-Aspire South Yorkshire has been established to test whether social marketing approaches can help us to understand and influence the attitudes, opinions and behaviours of children and young people throughout the sub-region. By actively engaging, it will help us understand why many of them appear to possess low aspirations and low levels of enterprise.
“This programme is worthwhile, exciting and innovative and has great potential for making a significant impact on the issue” says Peter Mucklow, Director of Planning, Performance and Partnerships at Sheffield City Council, and programme sponsor.
“Partner involvement continues to grow as the project moves into the second half of the Scoping Phase. The profile of Inspire-Aspire South Yorkshire is being raised through word of mouth across the region. In a short space of time, we have achieved a significant amount of success.”
