New Strong Economy Board up and running
The Sheffield First Strong Economy Board, a new partnership with new membership, is one of five thematic partnerships which sit under the Sheffield First Partnership Board. The Board is the single strategic lead for the economy.
The Strong Economy Board will actively seek to make Sheffield a competitive, sustainable and prosperous city, attractive to investors and providing an environment that enables wealth to be created and all individuals to participate fully.
The Board has met twice and is looking at the key challenges the city faces in meeting its long term aspirations, as well as overseeing the city's response to the recession - through the Recession Action Plan.
The Board's membership is small and focused, including elected Members, key partners and voluntary and community sector representatives. In addition, the Board has committed to achieving a 50% private sector membership, and has recruited six members from a range of Sheffield businesses in key sectors.
The Board has a wide range of responsibilities including economic competitiveness, employment and skills, enterprise, housing and transport and physical regeneration. Its role is to act as the overall strategic lead on the economic agenda, responsible for setting policy, priorities and headline resource allocation.
The new Strong Economy Board is a real step forward in achieving accountable, expert and inclusive leadership for the Sheffield economy.
