Innovation to reduce carbon emissions
The Eco Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme was launched in January this year and is a free, voluntary scheme designed to provide recognition, guidance and advice to operators of goods vehicles, buses and coaches across South Yorkshire.
The Council signed up 755 vehicles in August and received a three star rating. They were praised for their operational efficiency and best practice in key aspects of fleet management.
Stagecoach was the first bus and coach operator to join the scheme - they signed up 295 vehicles in June and were also awarded a three star rating.
Sheffield First Environment Partnership will be focussing on transport at the September Board meeting, in relation to the preparation of the Local Transport Plan and the city's commitment to reducing carbon by 10% by 2010.
Andy Nolan, Director of Sheffield First Environment Partnership says: "ECO Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme makes a significant contribution to carbon reduction in Sheffield and we are pleased to support and promote this scheme to our partners. We would encourage more of our partners to sign up to the ECO Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme to show their support to reducing carbon emissions in Sheffield."
