Celebrating the creative and digital industries
Utopia was the first event in a new venture to celebrate the creative and digital industries and the impending launch of Sheffield's Digital Campus. The event was sponsored by Sheffield Digital Campus, Electric Works, Yorkshire Forward and Creative Sheffield.
The event included film screenings from BAFTA award winning Warp Films, South Yorkshire Film Network and Lifesize Pictures. An exhibition piece, previously unseen in Britain, was also on show. Diaspora Magnet was created by Martyn Ware, of Human League fame and has only been seen before at the Venice Biennale. Artwork from Pete McKee and an exclusive preview of photography exhibition ' The Pea' were also on display.
Utopia gathered together the best creative thinkers in the region at the Millennium Galleries and Winter Gardens to celebrate the launch of Sheffield's Digital Campus due to open later this year.
Sheffield Digital Campus has been designed specifically for companies in the digital sector. The site, located between Ponds Forge, the Sheffield city bus station and the city’s mainline rail station, has capacity for up to 600,000 sq ft of modern office accommodation.
Across the region the sector employs in excess of 123,000 employees in more than 13,000 businesses – adding a staggering £5.21bn to the region. And the companies in the sector are growing all the time.
