Firefighters are set to ‘Cut-it-Out’
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue are raising awareness of the consequences of bad driving by presenting a series of road shows and exhibitions across the county. This campaign highlights the increase of road traffic collisions. Firefighters now attend more road traffic collisions than serious fires.
One of the most recent events was a live extrication event named ‘Cut-it-Out’ where firefighters cut a live casualty from a mock road traffic collision (RTC) with members of the public invited to watch.
Trainee Paramedics from Sheffield Hallam University and Road Safety Officers also took part in the event raising public awareness of the horrific consequences of a crash through bad driving. Members of the public received road safety advice covering a wide range of topics including speeding, drink driving, drug driving and seatbelts.
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue have a large role to play in community safety with pro-active education promoting a safe environment from fires, road traffic collisions and other emergencies. The Fire & Rescue Service also runs events specifically for young people including the Head-On project, the LIFE initiative and Cruisers events for young car enthusiasts.
