Blast Off
Not only is Activity Sheffield helping to make Sheffield people more physically active, they are also helping to reduce anti-social behavior.
Blast Off is a five-a-side football tournament that was originally piloted in 2006 in Owlerton and Southey Green. It has proved to be a phenomenal success with over 1700 young people taking part. However, the most significant success of this programme was when it was delivered as part of the South Yorkshire Police ‘Operation Mischief’ period leading up to bonfire night last year. Parson Cross and Ecclesfield Safer Neighbourhood Area (SNA) experienced a 10% decrease in instances of anti-social behaviour which was attributed to the Blast Off programme.
This year's tournament commences on 13 October and will be held during the evening in schools, with the finals being held at Pitz Soccer Centre, Woodbourne Road Stadium on the evening of Tuesday 4 November.
Blast Off is organised by Activity Sheffield, Sheffield City Council with South Yorkshire Police and Fire Service, Sheffield Futures, Woodthorpe Development Trust and All Saints RC Secondary School Partnership.
