Dark Nights Campaign

Project Dark Nights brings new benefits to public safety in Sheffield.  The project has been planned in partnership to reduce the incidence of anti-social behaviour in the four weeks from 13 October through to 9 November 2008.

The mix of joint working, high profile publicity campaigns, targeted proactive activity, and joint inspections, coupled with existing diversionary activities should prove highly effective.

The project centres upon bringing together agencies within the Sheffield First Safer Communities Partnership including Police, Fire, the Local Authority, Sheffield Homes, Trading Standards and associated partners in a two stage plan.

A high profile concentrated media campaign will start on the 13 October.  It will include bus and tram advertising, leaflet drops in communities and bike and foot patrols in targeted areas, delivering a themed community safety message.

A team consisting of all the partner agencies will be assembled at three key sites between the hours of 15:30 and 22:00 on each of the 2 days either side of the 31 October and 4 days either side of the 5 November 2008.

Other agencies involved in the operation will provide evening activities for young people enabling them to socialise in a safe, indoor environment.

Fire officers will visit secondary schools in the run up to Bonfire Night to inform them of the dangers and risks associated with fireworks with advice on how to stay safe.

The Safer Communities Partnership encourages people to enjoy the time of year by behaving in a safe and responsible way.
