Digital Entrepreneurs Pioneering Project Launch

BiG – Make it Your Business, launched a pioneering project to provide web-based business support on 10 September.

Digital Entrepreneurs, Electric Village is an exciting project that provides start-up businesses with the ability to trade online and includes web translation services and a range of additional support, for example reception services.  Organisers believe the project to be the first of its kind in the UK.

Martin Ware, founder member of The Human League and Heaven 17, and Sylvia Anginotti, Sheffield City Council Cabinet Member for Employment and Enterprise unveiled The Electric Village at the Forum.

The launch showcased some of the first beneficiaries of the scheme, including make up artist Fuchsia Darley, whose work was made possible by the BiG – Make it Your Business programme.

Speaking on the event Councillor Sylvia Anginotti said:

“I was delighted to attend the BiG – Make it Your Business event to launch the ‘Digital Entrepreneurs’ project.  Making use of the city’s high broadband connectivity rate of 92% in this way is really innovative.  It means everyone in the city who wants to start up a business that uses the web can take advantage of this.  It’s just one more step in pushing Sheffield to the top of the league in using technology in an innovative and exciting way.”
