Ted Kitchen, Chair of Sheffield First Environment Partnership

Ted Kitchen has been Professor of Planning and Urban Regeneration at Sheffield Hallam University since November 1995, during which time he has been the author or co-author of two books and numerous papers, recently concentrating on the specialist field of planning for crime prevention. He has considerable experience with a wide range of regeneration challenges, notably as the City's Director of Planning and Environmental Health at Manchester and he is a national figure, serving on the British Urban Regeneration Association's Best Practice Committee and also on the Evaluation Panel for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister‘s Award for Sustainable Communities.

Jeff Lunn

Jeff is a Manager for Natural England in Yorkshire & the Humber region. He has worked for Natural England and its predecessors since 1985 and prior to that worked with the private sector in biological publishing and the water industry, and in the voluntary environment sector.

He is a Director of the Humber Industry & Nature Conservation Association and a Director of Pennine Prospects (a regeneration company in the South Pennines), and is a Trustee of the Garganey Trust, the Light Owler Trust, the Barnsley Biodiversity Trust and the Yorkshire & Humber Ecological Data Trust.

He is Chairman of the Humberhead Levels Partnership, co-Chairman of the Yorkshire & Humber Regional Biodiversity Forum, and is a Chartered Environmentalist and founder member of the Institute of Ecology & Environmental Management. He has published numerous notes and papers on wildlife and conservation and holds an M.Phil from Sheffield Hallam University for his research work on the ecology of post-industrial habitats.

Jeff’s driving passion is to achieve a world class environment for the wildlife and people of Yorkshire & the Humber.

He is married with three children and lives in Barnsley.

Les Sturch

Les Sturch is a graduate of the University of Sheffield and has 30 years experience in local government. He qualified at the Southbank Polytechnic whilst working in London. Responsible for preparing a new City Plan, assessing 4000 planning aplications a year and delivering environmental and community projects across the City for its regeneration, he is committed to modernising Planning, improving the engagement of communities and ensuring that regeneration respects the environmental and sustainability needs of Sheffield.

John Housham

John qualified in Environmental Science and River Quality Engineering and started work in the Water Industry in 1976 before moving to the National Rivers Authority in 1989. He joined the Environment Agency on its formation in 1996 and currently manages a group of dedicated staff who protect and improve the environment across South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire.

Edward Murphy

Edward Murphy is a chartered engineer and a director in the Sheffield office of engineering consultants Mott MacDonald. Edward has a proven track record in design and project management of high profile, low-energy buildings. Through his career he has remained in touch with technological developments, and believes in advocating design solutions that are progressive and forward thinking. In recent years he become a key advisor to government on sustainable construction leading up to his most recent involvement as the principle advisor to the UK Border Agency for Sheffield’s greenest building Vulcan House. He is currently lead sustainability advisor to Sheffield BSF Schools programme which will see the redevelopment of 14 secondary schools in the city over the next five years.

Revd Canon Dr Joanne Grenfell

The Revd Canon Dr Joanne Grenfell is Residentiary Canon at Sheffield Cathedral, and Diocesan Director of Ordinands and Dean of Women’s Ministry in the Diocese of Sheffield. She was previously Lecturer in English at Oriel College, Oxford, where she also completed a doctorate in literature and cultural geography. She was ordained in 2000 in the Diocese of Liverpool, has worked in urban priority areas in Merseyside and Sheffield, been Course Director for Ripon College Cuddesdon’s Sheffield programme, and now combines three varied roles in the Diocese of Sheffield. She has been involved in conservation work, and in environmental campaigns, and has a particular interest in communications.

Cllr Gill Furniss

Dawn Osborne

Dawn is the Head of Operations at the Meadowhall Shopping centre and directs security, cleaning, food court, customer service and landscaping functions. Previously her experience has covered the fields of customer service and marketing and she has advised and given lectures to council's, universities, airports in the UK and China and the British Council of Shopping Centres' annual forums on the subjects of what shopping locations can do to tackle green issues and how to serve stakeholders.

Meadowhall has achieved many firsts for its green strategy. It was the first shopping centre to introduce a green policy in 1991, first to sink a bore hole and introduce rainwater harvesting, the first to create a resource recycling centre and has recently won a commendation in the Pan European Mobility awards, the only UK business to be commended.

Matt Walker

Matt Walker began work in the environmental sector in 2005. Having studied Biology and Countryside Management at both undergraduate and post graduate levels in Bangor, North Wales, Matt started at Sheffield Chamber of Commerce administrating the South Yorkshire Green Business Club (SYGBC).

Matt progressed to the Business Environment Centre (BEC) in 2007 where he and his team continue to provide assistance to businesses. In this role Matt has assisted academic institutions, community groups and businesses looking to take advantage of the business potential within the environmental agenda.

In addition, Matt’s work includes signposting and brokerage to regional, national or international environmental initiatives. On a regional level, working with the Green Business Support Organisation (GBSO), Matt is also engaged with the national support agencies, the regional development agency and environmental practitioners to increase the capacity and expertise in the region.

Matt continues to work with business of all sizes and from all sectors to meet the environmental challenges businesses currently face though the Sheffield Eco Business Programme.
