Cllr Paul Scriven, Chair of Sheffield First PartnershipCllr Paul Scriven is the Leader of Sheffield City Council and is also Managing Director of a travel company, Your Asia Holidays Ltd, specialising in prestige holidays to Indo-China. Born in Huddersfield, he began his working life at 16 digging roads but decided to pursue further education and obtained a number of qualifications to degree level. His professional career started in the NHS and has included senior management at a number of hospitals as well as manager of a PLC working withthe health service. He takes a particular interest in environmental issues, economic regeneration, issues affecting young people and is a keen campaigner for community governance. John MothersoleJohn Mothersole is the Chief Executive of Sheffield City Council, stepping up from his previous role as Executive Director of Development, Environment and Leisure. John joined Sheffield City Council in 1998 and since then has been directly and closely involved in much of the regeneration of the City Centre. His remit has also covered the City’s green heritage, the sustainability agenda, transport, culture and planning. Prior to coming to Sheffield he was a Director with the London Borough of Camden for seven years, and before that was the Arts Development Officer for Newcastle Upon Tyne. In his current role, John is Deputy Chair of the Sheffield First Partnership, Company Secretary to Creative Sheffield and a member of the Sheffield City Region Executive Group. He also represents City Regions on the Northern Way Management Group and is a member of Core Cities Chief Executives’ Group. Isobel Mills (observer)Isobel Mills is the Deputy Regional Director for People, Communities and Local Government and Race Equality Champion for the Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber. Isobel and her group are responsible for social inclusion, a range of Local Authority related issues such as Housing and Local Planning, policy and delivery of Local Area Agreements, Community Cohesion, and work with the Voluntary, Faith and Community Sectors. Isobel took up her current post in November 2002. She has been in GOYH since 1994 during which time she has been Director of Neighbourhood Renewal and Local Government and Director of the European Secretariat. Prior to working with GOYH, Isobel was the Head of Corporate Services in the DTI Regional Office in Leeds. She began her working life running a Youth Hostel in Swaledale. Nigel TomlinsonA career spent in international business and management was excellent preparation for Nigel Tomlinson's current role as chief executive of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was born and bred in Doncaster and has remained in South Yorkshire for much of his working life - roots that have given him a sense of commitment to the area and its future development. Nigel was educated at Doncaster Grammar School and Hull University, where he earned a Masters degree in business administration. |
Dr Philip HarveyPhilip was appointed Registrar and Secretary and Chief Operating Officer at the University of Sheffield in October 2009 and brought with him considerable experience of higher education gained in previous senior appointments, most latterly that of Registrar at the University of Sussex. He is responsible for the successful operation of the complete spectrum of Professional Services within the University. Philip was educated at Oxford Polytechnic, Oxford University, and Durham University from where he received his PhD in Social Sciences in 1991. He joined the University of Warwick in 1988 and worked in a series of posts culminating in the role of Secretary to the Warwick Graduate School before taking up appointment as Academic Secretary at the University of Exeter in 1997. Philip was appointed Deputy Registrar and Academic Secretary at Exeter in 2004. Philip has a wide range of interests in educational issues and has also served as a director of a number of university companies. He is also an elected member of the AHUA Executive Committee. Sharon Squires (Director of SFP)Sharon joined Sheffield First Partnership as Director in April 2010. Prior to this she worked in the East Midlands for ten years as Director of Derby Stronger and Safer Communities Partnership and also as Director of Change in Government Office East Midlands. Sharon has also previously worked as a senior probation officer and probation officer, including a year in the South Yorkshire Probation Service, working and living in Sheffield. Sharon has a long history of partnership working, including establishing Derby Youth Offending Service, Derby Family Justice Centre and the Nottinghamshire Stronger and Safer Communities partnership. Nick WarrenNick Warren is the Chief Executive of Voluntary Action Sheffield. VAS employs around 60 staff, supported by 25 volunteers, delivering services to 900 local voluntary and community organisations each year as well as providing training and advice to over 4,000 individuals and supporting strategic partnership work. Nick is a Trustee of NAVCA (the National Association for Voluntary & Community Action), and the Yorkshire & Humber Regional Forum for the Voluntary Community Sector, is Co-Chair of the Sheffield Compact (between the Voluntary & Community Sector and the City Council), and serves on number of regional and national task groups and advisory bodies on third sector policy issues. Nick’s earlier career included ten years with International Voluntary Service, supporting a worldwide network over 35 national branches and partner organisations, and working as UK local groups co-ordinator for Friends of the Earth. David BrownDavid Brown is the Director General of the South Yorkshire PTE and has 20 years’ experience in commercial, operational and business management positions in the rail industry. He joined South Yorkshire PTE in September 2000 and was promoted to the position of Passenger Services Director on 1 April 2002. In that role he was responsible for strategic planning, the integration of transport modes, the delivery of the capital programme and all operational and customer information services. David was successfully appointed as the new Director General of SYPTE on 1 April 2008. David has a degree in geography, is a member of the IOD and has a diploma in Company Direction from the IOD. |
